Job Description

Job Summary:          

Duties include lecturing experience in Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch programmes with supervision of a class size of fifteen students and the equipment used to conduct the training exercises. He/she is responsible for planning the training presentations and course schedule in accordance with Section A-II/4 of the STCW Convention and Code. The lecturer is expected to have the minimum knowledge and experience as a Navigational Watch Officer onboard ships 500 gross tonnage and more.

 

Reports to: Senior Training Officer

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Power Points for theoretical training.
  • Supervision of students and equipment.
  • Seamanship Knowledge
  • Conducts practical exercises in the use of magnetic and gyro-compasses.
  • Conduct practical exercises in Helm orders.
  • Communicate effectively how to change-over from automatic to hand steering and vice versa.
  • Demonstration of proper look-out by sight and hearing.
  • Impart knowledge effectively of how to control and monitor a safe watch.
  • Demonstrating how to operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures.

 

Qualifications:

  • The holder of a Certificate of Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch
  • The holder of a II/5 Certification
  • Minimum of one(1) year lecturing experience
