SCOPE

This course and its contents are based on the S.C.V. Code (Small Commercial Vessel Code). The course is designed for mariners who operate open vessels in protected waters. The students will develop skills in seamanship, boat handling, basic navigation, meteorology, communication, emergency procedures and small engine repairs.

DURATION & DELIVERY

Ten (10) days. Classes are from 08:00 to 16:00 hrs.

OBJECTIVES

This course and its contents are based on the S.C.V. Code (Small Commercial Vessel Code). The syllabus and model training course has been prepared by the I.M.O. (International Maritime Organization) for vessels in the Caribbean. Some modification to the model has been included in order to present the best training possible. The course is designed for mariners who operate open vessels in protected waters.

The students will develop skills in seamanship, boat handling, basic navigation, meteorology, communication, emergency procedures and small engine repair.

Duration of this course is 10 days and includes a one day diesel engine maintenance and troubleshooting session. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, models and videos will be utilized.

Upon completion of training and successful examination the candidate will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute and will be eligible to receive a License of Boat Master Grade II from Maritime Services.

  • Legal Responsibilities towards Passengers and Seafarers
  • Basic Knowledge of Vessel Construction and Stability
  • Engineering Knowledge

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

COURSE REQUIREMENTS                                                                                                        

– All participants must complete full course hours in order to receive certificate of completion.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

Upon successful completion of all training requirements you will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute and will be eligible to receive a License of Boat Master Grade III from Maritime Services Division.
