COURSE TITLE
Medical First Aid (Revalidation)
SCOPE
The course covers the basic principles of first aid, first response treatment of a casualty and basic life support. It is a standalone course as well as a component of the Basic Safety Training* course.
Who would benefit?
This course is recommended for any individual who intends to pursue a career at sea or offshore.
DURATION & DELIVERY
The duration of this course is two (2) days. Classes are from 8:00am to 4:00pm. A combination of lectures sessions, demonstrations and videos are used to deliver this course. Training and instruction is done by qualified personnel of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.
OBJECTIVE
In this course you will learn to provide immediate basic medical care on board boats, ships or any other sea-going vessels.
COURSE OUTLINE
- Appreciation of body structure and functions
- Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in case of emergency
- Positioning a casualty
- The unconscious casualty
- Applied resuscitation techniques
- Controlling bleeding
- Burn treatment, including accidents caused by electric current
- Casualty rescue and transport
- Improve bandages and use materials in emergency kit
- Standard dressing
- Oral poisoning
- Cold & Heat
