BOAT MASTER GRADE III

This course and its contents are based on the S.C.V. Code (Small Commercial Vessel Code). The syllabus and model training course has been prepared by the I.M.O. (International Maritime Organization) for vessels in the Caribbean.

Aim/Goal

The students will develop skills in seamanship, boat handling, basic navigation, meteorology, communication, emergency procedures and small engine repair.

Target group/s

The course is designed for mariners who operate open vessels in protected waters.

Duration & Delivery

Duration of this course is 10 days, classes are from 08:00 to 16:00 hrs. and includes a one day diesel engine maintenance and troubleshooting session. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, models and videos will be utilized.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS                                                                                           

All participants must complete full course hours to receive a certificate of completion.

– PLEASE WALK WITH A COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHING AND SNEAKERS EVERY DAY ALONG WITH A HAT AND PAIR OF SUNGLASSES. IF POSSIBLE PLEASE WALK WITH YOUR OWN PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE OR LIFE JACKET. IF NOT ONE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR YOU.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

Upon successful completion of all training requirements, you will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute and will be eligible to receive a License of Boat Master Grade III from the Maritime Services Division.

Attained a minimum age of 17 years

Basic Literacy skills

Identification

Two (2) form of Identification (Drivers Permit/License, Passport, ID Card and or Birth Certificate)

One (1) Passport sized photograph (Photos must have white background).

Additional Requirements

A valid Basic Training Certificate.

How are classes delivered?

Courses are delivered via blended learning. Practical classes are taught physically on location at the institute and theory classes are provided online.

Do I have to be a national of Trinidad and Tobago?

No. Once you meet the basic requirements for entry you will be able to qualify.

Is there parking available for students on the campus?

Yes and parking is free.
