We at Caribbean Fisheries Training and Development Institute would like to thank you for joining us in the fifth edition of our quarterly newsletter, The Port. This edition features articles such as ‘The new Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Treaty’ by Dr. Judith Gobin, ‘Accidental Travels’ by Ms. Rosemarie Kishore and ‘CC4 Fish Safety at Sea Training for Small-scale Fishers’ by Mr. Derek Archer. CFTDI would like to thank all of our authors and contributors who so graciously provide us with their time and expertise to produce these articles. To our readers and staff we do hope that you enjoy the newsletter as much as we enjoy producing it.
The Institute has transitioned from a bi-monthly publication to a quarterly edition. This issue features informed content on “One Health in the Fishing Industry” by Dr. Carla Phillips Savage, “Wellness as Personal Choice” by Dr. Jeanine St. Bernard and other external articles from qualified professionals within their respective fields. We have also included content on Marine Aquaculture and World Day for Safety and Health at Work. We thank you for your continued support as we provide content to highlight key areas within the maritime and fisheries sector.
This issue features informed content for International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Global Recycling Day and World Oral Health Day from qualified professionals within their respective fields. Our feature articles for this issue were submitted by female professionals in commemoration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We also highlight some of the outreach activities conducted at the Carenage Fishing Centre and our workplace wellness session held in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
This issue features informed content for World Maritime Day, World Mental Health Day and World Food Day from qualified professionals within their respective fields. Our feature article for this issue was submitted by Dr. Hazel Othello Consultant Psychiatrist, who addresses the concerns of mental health for all. We also highlight a popular retail vendor at the Carenage Fishing Centre as he shares insights into the industry and the changes that have occurred over the last 30 years.
This issue highlights the Institute’s response to the global pandemic COVID-19, the Carenage Fishing Centre and CFTDI’s collaboration with the Agricultural Development Bank and Tobago House of Assembly. Feature Articles from the Shipping Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the National Food Safety Coordinating Committee and Fisheries Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries are also included to provide industry context.
